Hyderabad, June 23 (NSS) Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the Election Commission not to issue notification for the local body elections till Wednesday. The court is expected to give its judgment on the elections on Wednesday.
The High Court has directed the Election Commission to submit the reservation policy announced by the government to it.
The court has issued these directions on a writ petition by some petitioners, raising objections to the increased reservations.
It may be recalled that the Supreme Court has directed that reservations should not exceed 50 percent in the local body elections. However the state government has given reservations upto 60 percent, because of the situation in the state.
Sarpanches Association has filed a writ petition against this decision in the High Court. The court which heard arguments for three days has reserved its ruling. Arguments were heard even on Monday and announcement of decision was deferred to Tuesday. (NSS)
