According to informed sources, Mr Manohar felt that he could follow the decision of the Lok Sabha Speaker on the MPs’ resignation to solve the issue of resignations of MLAs in the State. Besides, he will also take opinion of legal and Constitutional experts on the issue, it is learnt.
Ms Meira Kumar has already disclosed that she would take a decision on the Telangana MPs’ resignations by August 1.
In the State, over 100 MLAs from Telangana region belonging to the ruling Congress party, the main Opposition TDP, BJP, CPI and TRS submitted their resignations to mount pressure on the Centre on formation of separate Telangana State. Accordingly, pressure on the Assembly Speaker from the resigned legislators increased. On Friday, the suspended TDP MLA, Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, and two other members met Mr Manohar and insisted that he accepted their resignations. On Saturday also, 18 TDP MLAs met the Assembly Speaker and requested him to accept their resignations immediately.
However, Mr Manohar may not take any decision until August 1 as he was awaiting decision of the Lok Sabha Speaker on the resignations of 13 Telangana MPs. (NSS)
