T-CONGRESS LEADERS PLAN MASS FAST ON JULY 20

Hyderabad, July 18 (NSS): The resigned Telangana Congress public representatives have decided

to organise mass hunger strikes (Samoohika Sathyagrahams) on July 20 at mandal, corporation and
municipality level across the Telangana region to protest against the Centre’s indifferent attitude
towards Telangana issue. They also decided to organize a ‘flag festival’ on July 26 at village level in
the region.
Addressing the media after the extensive meeting of the resigned Telangana public
representatives here on Monday, the resigned Telangana public representatives’ Coordination
Committee official spokespersons, Mr Gutha Sukhender Reddy and Mr Gandra Venkata Ramana
Reddy, have said the MLAs, MPs and Congress cadre would participate in the mass hunger strike
programme. They said that they also decided to organize a huge public meeting on July 31, but a final
decision on conducting the meeting would be taken after watching the developments in Delhi. He said
the meeting also passed a resolution to conduct meetings of Coordination Committee to review the
delay tactics of the Centre on creation of Telangana State.
Responding to a query, Mr Gutha said there was no link between the Gurkhaland and Telangana
and added that the Gurkhaland was a small region and a hill station and located at national boundary.
Telangana was a special State before 1956, he added.
Ridiculing the argument of Rayalaseema senior Congress leader, Mr J C Diwakar Reddy, Mr
Gutha said the Seemandhra leaders never allowed Telangana leaders to continue as Chief Minister for
a full term. The Telangana leaders enjoyed the post of Chief Minister for seven out of 48 years. He
said there would be permanent Chief Ministers of their own regions if the State was bifurcated into two
States and there will be no quarrels between the Seemandhra and Telangana.
Stating that there was no strength in Seemandhra leaders’ argument, Mr Gutha said waters will
be allocated according to Bachavat award and authority will be established for Srisailam, Nagarjuna
Sagar and Jurala projects if the State was divided.
Responding to another query, Mr Gutha said the Telangana people were not in a position to
accept any special package for Telangana region. He said the Telangana leaders were ready to discuss
with any Committee only on the assurance of separate Telangana. He said the Union Home Minister,
Mr P Chidambaram, made December 9, 2009 announcement only after the assurance of the AICC
Chief, Ms Sonia Gandhi. (NSS)
