Hyderabad, July 23 (NSS): The TDP chief Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that the government instead of going to the rescue of farmers who were facing untold sufferings, was foisting false cases against them when they agitated on their problems.
In a letter to the Chief Minister Mr. N. Kirankumar Reddy, Mr. Naidu said the government should immediately respond to the problems of the farmers and hold discussions with Konaseema farmers who have declared crop holiday in 1 lakh of acres of fertile land. He said the government should instill confidence on the farmers and ensure that they take up cultivation, shunning the crop holiday. He has demanded that seeds be distributed at subsidy rates in drought areas and black marketing of fertilizers be put an end to. He said the government should reschedule the loans in 16 identified districts and release funds sufficiently for the interest waiver. He has also demanded withdrawal of all cases registered against the farmers.
Mr. Naidu has said the scheme of providing facilities to tenant farmers has turned out to be a big drama. He has alleged that of the 40 lakh such farmers, not even 1 lakh had received loans. He said farmers were being forced to take loans from micro finance companies as institutional finance was not forthcoming. (NSS)
