CAT GRANTS THREE WEEKS TO CENTRE, STATE TO FILE COUNTERS ON DG APPOINTMENT

Hyderabad, July 26 (NSS): The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) bench on Tuesday granted three weeks’ time to the Union and State governments to file their counters over a petition filed by senior IPS officer P Gautam Kumar against the appointment of Mr V Dinesh Reddy as Director General of Police (DGP).

When the counsels of the respondents sought four weeks to file their counters, the two-member CAT bench comprising member-judicial, Mr P Swaroop Reddy, and member-administrative, Mr Ranbir Singh, allowed three weeks only.

It may be mentioned here that the CAT bench on July 12 issued notices to the State and Union governments and Mr Dinesh Reddy asking them to file their counters within two weeks following the petition of the Principal Secretary of Home, Mr Gowtham Kumar. Aggrieved by the appointment of Mr Dinesh Reddy as DGP, Mr Gowtham Kumar approached the CAT alleging that the State government had ignored his seniority with regard to appointment to the post. (NSS)
