Heavy rains lash Vizag: Low-lying areas go under water

Visakhapatnam, July 28 (NSS) Several low-lying places in the city went
under water due to the heavy rain that lashed during the midnight.
Though there were rains through out the state due to the influence of
the low-pressure trough, there were no rains in Visakhapatnam for the
past two days. However, all of a sudden there was a heavy down pour
during the midnight. Rain water seeped into the areas adjuscent to the
railway stations. Water reaching upto 3 feet entered sevgeral houses.
In tne Railway New Colony, Subbalakshmi Nagar, Dondaparti Junction,
Convent Junction and Gnanapuram areas, water entered houses. In
several apartments, cellars were inundated. People living in the low
lying areas spent a sleepless night.
Meanwhile the low pressure trough that spread from Vidarbha to South
Tamilnadu through Telangana and Rayalaseema and the surface trough
spread over the same areas have been moving steadily. Under their
influence, rains or thundershowers would occur at some places on
Coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana regions, said a report from
the Cyclone Warning Centre in Visakhapatnam, Heavy rains are also
likely in some places, the forecast said. (NSS)
