Hyderabad, Aug.7 (NSS): Andhra Pradesh Tribal Employees’ Federation has demanded that the State government declare the World Tribal Day on August 9 as a holiday.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, the federation State president, Mr Pandu B Naik, pointed out that the State government has declared the birth days and death anniversaries of some leaders as holidays. Reminding that there was an 80-lakh tribal population in the State, he urged the government to declare August 9 as holiday for the tribals.
Regretting that living conditions of the tribal people across the world were very pathetic, Mr Pandu Naik said the United Nations had declared August 9 as World Tribal Day to create awareness among them on their rights and bring them into mainstream. Deploring that the government was not officially conducting birth and death anniversary of any tribal leader in the country, he demanded that the government officially celebrate the World Tribal Day on August 9 and declare it as a holiday for the tribals.
