Hyderabad, Aug. 17 (NSS): The Minister for Tourism, Mr Vatti Vasant Kumar has felt that the digitization of manuscripts would preserve our ancient literature and history to the next generations.

       Mr Vatti Vasant Kumar on Wednesday released three Telugu books — Akaradi Amara Nighantuvu (second part), Grandha Parishkarana Shastram and Nallagonda Zilla Banjara Moukhika Kathalu and a CD of digitization of 7,000 manuscripts availed in East Godavari district, at a programme in his chamber in the Secretariat. The Andhra Pradesh Government Oriental Manuscripts Library and Research Institute brought out these books and the CD.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the books brought out by the Institute would help the people and research scholars. “Akaradi Amara Nighantuvu” was a Sanskrit to Telugu dictionary composed by Mr Katapally Sundaraiah. The second book, “Grandha Parishkarana Shastram” would be useful for those who were researching ancient literature and history. The third book – “Nallagonda Zilla Banjara Moukhika Kathalu” consists of stories on tribal culture and traditions.

Stating that the chances of damage to manuscripts were more, the minister stressed the need for digitization of manuscripts. With the assistance of National Manuscripts Mission, the Andhra Pradesh
Government Oriental Manuscripts Library and Research Institute has taken up preservation and digitization of manuscripts. The digitization of 7,000 manuscripts collected in East Godavari districts was completed. In the second phase, collection and digitization of manuscripts in Warangal, Karimnagar, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Chittoor was started, he added. (NSS)
